Our 'Dentalist of the Week'
for this week
is:
the Beautiful Black Man who was one of the
three very first ever graduating class of the
Meharry Medical College Dental School in
1887, and he achieved massive national
prominence compared to the other two, and
he became the first college-trained Big Black
Physician, Pharmacist, and Dentist to open
a practice in Nashville, Tennessee, and in
1895 he co-founded and served as the first
President of the Big, Black, and Beautiful
National Medical Association until 1898
during that bigoted Jim Crow era, plus he
also founded Mercy Hospital in 1893 for
young Black students to train in because 'other'
hospitals wouldn't let them in, after which
he served as CEO and surgeon-in-chief of Mercy,
and after the success of that, he opened
surgical clinics in Mississippi, Alabama,
Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee, but it all
started after he overcame enslavement and
attended night classes at Big Black Fisk U.,
then transferred to Meharry U., after which
he matriculated his way into, and graduating
with honors, from Meharry Medical School in
1882, and after graduating from there he
enrolled in Meharry University Dental School,
and when he finished he had qualifications to
practice medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy,
plus he did some post-grad work in surgery
and women's and children's diseases, and during
his professional years he scientifically researched
the physical and community effects of racial
segregation in healthcare,
and we give flowers and say the name of...
